What is Portion Weight Match?

Portion Weight Match is a tool for grouping items with varying individual weights — such as salmon portions — into packs that meet a specified minimum total weight.

You load a CSV listing how many pieces you have at each weight, enter a minimum weight per pack, and the tool calculates the combination of pieces that makes the maximum possible number of packs. Among all combinations that make the same maximum number of packs, it picks the one with the least leftover (excess) weight.

Piece weights in the CSV are in ounces (oz). The minimum pack weight you enter is in pounds (lb).

All processing happens in your browser. Your CSV and calculation data are never sent to a server.

This tool does not fix the number of pieces per pack — combinations are calculated based on total pack weight only.

How it works

  1. Enter the minimum weight per pack, in lb.

  2. Upload or drag & drop your inventory CSV (piece weights in oz).

    weights,stock

  3. Run the weight match.

  4. Review the result: pack list, breakdown, and remaining stock.

  5. Download the work order as an Excel (XLSX) file.

1. Minimum weight per pack (lb)

lb (fixed)

No unit selector on this page — the minimum weight is always in lb.

2. Select inventory CSV (oz)

No file chosen

Piece weight unit is oz (fixed). Header must be exactly "weights, stock".

The first row of the CSV must be "weights, stock". weights = weight of each piece (oz) stock = number of pieces available at that weight

The CSV does not contain unit information.

On this page, all weights values are interpreted as oz.

Make sure you do not upload a CSV prepared for grams.

Up to 50 weight classes are supported. For faster and more reliable calculation, 25 or fewer is recommended.

Calculations may take longer as the number of weight classes or stock items increases. Very complex cases may stop at a safe processing limit without returning a result.

3. Run
